Scouts - Canoe Polo
By Ashleigh Petzer
Heritage
Day, 24th September was the day in which the district canoe polo
competition 2009 took place. The day started out with people being taught how to
canoe, which was quite entertaining when they all realized that they had to
capsize. At 10:00, a demo game of canoe polo was played to show the land scouts
groups how canoe polo was really played. In this game, push over rule applied.
After the intense demo game, the real games started and continued throughout the
day.
The
games were very interesting as although push over rule didn’t apply, people
still managed to fall over in every game without the help of another person. The
end of the day saw the 3rd ken senior team winning without being
scored against once. They scored 53 goals in total, which was expected as we are
the only sea scouts in the district.
Disregarding 3rd Kensington, Whychwood came out top of the land
scouts. Certificates were handed out at the final parade and included awards
such as ‘The best submarine’ (for the person who sank the most) and ‘The best
swimmer’ (for the person who spent more time in the water than in their boat
when playing a polo game). I think that everyone had fun and that they now see
that being a sea scout is so much more fun than being a land scout.
