Scouts - Girls Camp
By Michelle Morrow
The PL’s of the girls patrol decided to run a
girls only camp during the last weekend of the June/July holiday. Each girl was
allowed to bring 2 friends along if they could.
We arrived on the Friday night,
split into patrols and got the camp going. After everything was sorted we
decided to play 30 seconds Junior... it was amusing as some of the girls had
difficulties describing the items on the card... (We were told that a banana was
indeed round?)
Amazingly we were all in bed by
9:30 which was not expected – as you should know how girls can talk.
On Saturday we were awake bright and early to be at the Johannesburg Zoo by 9.
We managed to not be typically late. We spent the day at the zoo; attaching
people to certain animal families... we were also given the permission by two
parents to feed their daughters to the lions. Unfortunately the lion’s enclosure
wasn’t as accessible as we hoped.
A few of the girls managed to spot
the Netherlands Soccer Team which was a great surprise.
As two of the girls attending the camp had their birthdays fall on the Saturday.
Due to the special occasion we decided to throw a surprise party for them which
continued until the early hours of the morning.
When we all finally woke up on
Sunday we were graced with miserable cold weather, so we decided to remain
indoors and watch some DVD’s
All in all I believe that the camp
was a success as we made new friends, broadened the scouting program to new
families and had fun. Hopefully next time we can have a greater turn up.
