Scouts - J.O.T.I.

JOTA was created as an event to get scouts around the world talking to one another and scouts would build towers for radio aerials and communicate using shortwave radios. The arrival of the Internet gave rise to a cheaper and more accessible method of communication, which was quickly embraced to form JOTI.

JOTI this year was a big camp with 75% of the troop attending. As with last year. we arranged to camp at a local school where we could use the computer centre. Starting Friday evening, the scouts started chatting to other scouts around the world on Scoutlink between trying to scam each other, they did actually talk to other people with some scouts competing for the largest number concurrent chats. There was no curfew this year and when I went to bed at midnight everyone else was still going strong. Over the dark hours, most of the scouts went to bed, a couple of individuals stayed or slept at the keyboard.

During the morning, the scouts took a break to swim and tan. After lunch and some more chatting on the computers, we signed off and headed home on Saturday evening.
